#Takeatomato and how you can help a movement!
If you are reading this, we hope that it is because you came across one of our baskets of tomato plants in Atlanta, Augusta, or Greenville. The tomato plants are coming in. This time of year is our favorite time of year because we are huge tomato fans. This year, our third graders are growing lots of edible plants and many of them we will be giving away. Many will be planted in gardens and backyards.
We are hoping that people will get involved in this project and spread the word. The people who are taking this tomato plants are encouraged to take one and use the #takeatomato hashtag to get involved in the conversation about how they are growing them, tips for maintaining them, and even what they are making with what they grow.
Our third graders will be able to take that information and add it to a database that will help them with the next phase of this project. Those third graders will go on to the fourth grade and be a huge part in our work with next year's third graders.
So if you are reading this, you can help.
Starting this month and all spring and summer, we are placing tomato plants in various places around the cities of Atlanta, Augusta, and Greenville.
Take the plant home, place it in your yard or garden, or in a bucket on your patio...Where ever.
Keep checking back here for #tomatotips and learn things like how to prune and trellis your plants and even how to save seeds for next year and delicious recipes.
If you really want to be a part, you can help us collect data on how you are growing your plants along with other plants at Meals on Wheels locations and local food banks. Find us on Instagram and Facebook and tag photos #takeatomato. Contact us at thelifecooperative@gmail.com
If you really really want to be a part, show us how you are sharing your tomatoes with others! Take some to a homeless shelter or a food bank yourself.
If you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to be a part take a moment and make a contribution so that we can keep this project going.
Stay in the loop and find out where we are going to be dropping other things the kids are going to be growing like peppers and basil and oregano and more. Share this post!
