By the numbers...three bullets in the garden

Three bullets found in the courtyard near one of the schools we work with.
We have done this in past years but this year is going to be somewhat different.  We have often written about how, in the past, how all of the things that we do come together.
The Life Cooperative is a about a community coming together to work on something that could have a lot of meaning.  Earlier this year, one of our students found three bullets on the ground near the school where we started our first garden.
Three bullets are a bad number.  Let's look at some good numbers.
We now have 22 active compost piles going in Atlanta, and we are very close to one ton of compostable matter collected and we are just one month into this project.

We have 4 active gardens going in Atlanta, Augusta, Greenville, and Columbia not to mention one starting Haiti and one in Seattle.
Buckets going to a number of restaurants and homes to be filled with compost
We have begun connecting all of them in an effort to educate and connect kids all over the country.  Eight year olds in Atlanta are going to converse with eight year olds in Seattle, who will then be speaking to eight year olds in Haiti  They will be talking about what the weather is like and how the exterior temperature is affecting the interior temperature of the compost pile.
Now, they are learning to make these simple comparisons and interactions, but soon, we will be measuring soil Ph, and in the spring, they will be charting plant growth.  At the end of the school year, they will be preparing food with the things they have grown.  They will foster year round learning and involvement in the food cycle by being able to monitor their plants, and soon fish, chickens, and bees during the summer months.
Now, more than ever, we need to be able to talk to one another and to learn how the world works.  #nowmorethanever
