Why we do this...because sometimes we get to dance!
A little while ago, we started writing posts about why we do what we do. We thought it would be a good reminder of how all of the things that we do tie together. When you look at individual things that we do, it is hard to see how it all connects. So, we thought it best to, from time to time, remind people where the links are.
This morning, a couple of us spent some time in the garden putting things into the ground and looking at the things that we had already planted. There are strawberries coming in and the cherry tomatoes are beginning to bud. The sun is coming in full and warm, soon to be hot, and the dew is beginning to evaporate to do what dew does during the day.
Our volunteers went their separate ways and I came to the office to do some work on today's blog and work on the website. There are times when writing is a hassle. Sometimes I
cannot think of what to say. Today I sat down and looked out the window and it came to me. Sadly the muse was in the form of a man sleeping on the lawn. He was shaking off the aforementioned dew to evaporate to where ever he goes during the day; following the dew.
We are growing a lot of food. Most of our mornings lately have been spent on tomato plants. We are going to make those tomatoes into ketchup and salsa to sell at markets so that we can raise money to get people off the street.
We are growing that food in organic compost made from restaurants in the area.
We are hatching chicks. (check out our Hen Host Program)
We are tending bees. (check out our Hive Host Program)
We are doing a lot of things all for the purpose of helping others and making the world a better place. That is even the reason we dance. So when we do things like the Silent Disco and our Scavenger Hunts we are doing these things with a purpose. When all is said and done, it will be a little easier to breathe, there will be some healthier people in the world, and fewer people sleeping on the lawn.
We are thankful for the people who have been a part of this organization. We are thankful to our partners who have come out to support us all the while. We are happy when we get to do things like this because the difference we see in the world is becoming apparent and because sometimes we get to dance.
