The Hive Host Program...
We had mild successes with some of our projects in the past and now that we have so many more resources and so much more interest, we thought, "Why not revive some of the oldies but goodies...?"
We started the Hive Host program in Augusta a few years ago. It was aimed at first, getting more bees in the world. Second, allowing people who did not have bees but who wanted to get bees to have bees; thus making it easier to for them to get involved in their own hives. Third...everyone gets honey!
It works like this. The Life Cooperative installs a hive on someone's property. We train the owners on how to care for it.
There are just a few things we ask for in return.
First, honey. 25% of the entire amount of honey goes to the co-op. 25% goes to the property owner. 50% remains with the bees.
Second, we ask for access to the hive once a month for a year. We use this time to inspect the hive and for teaching opportunities.
That's pretty much it. Those interested in participating in the Decatur area are encouraged to apply by sending us an email at thelifecooperative@gmail.com. We evaluate candidates based on property location and area landscape.
