The mushroom project...Day 3
Three days ago, I woke up and decided that I would get to work on this project with a new energy. This is always the part that I hate, the beginning. This is the part that centers on hard work and planning, which I do not have a problem with. It also centers on being patient.
We are starting to grow oyster mushrooms. We are seeing that it is a delightfully simple project using materials that are readily available. The problem is taking the time. Time is the thing that has been the most frustrating thing for me.
Today is day three. The mushroom spores have been placed in the substrate and conventional wisdom says that it will take several more days for the mycelium to populate the mason jars. The trick is to keep going. The trick is to look every day and make sure that it is pure, white, mycelium populating the jar and not contaminated with any kind of mold or anything.
This was always the thing that I hated. The waiting.
