What is an Arduino?

If you are like me, chances are you thought it was something that could attack your chickens in the middle of the night or something that might be kinda delicious if it is cooked right.  I was wrong of course and I will spare you the mangled attempt to define it.  You can look it up for yourself, here.  Suffice it to say it is something that is going to be a large part of what we do in the future and not just The Life Cooperative, but people in the future.

Today we sat and watched a group of young ladies work with things and technology that we could not easily understand.  It was almost like they were speaking a whole new language.  That is what we want to support.  The Plant Pen Pal Project is going to be amazing.

With it, we are bringing together a lot of different pieces of a large puzzle that is the future.  The Plant Pen Pal Project now has young ladies in Atlanta

writing code and designing hardware that will control robots and monitor plants in Haiti and the UK.  These young ladies ages 10-17 are meeting other young ladies in places far away and will be helping them to build and in the case of Haiti, rebuild.  They will be meeting with and working with a network of people thousands of miles away, as if they were in the same room.  Some day, who knows, they could be designing things that will grow produce on Mars.
